Bilbao, jour/Day 3: Guggenheim part 2 (à l’intérieur/inside), Zubizuri, etc.

Déjà terminée, cette escapade à Bilbao. Vraiment splendide comme ville, j’avoue. Juste de la bonne grosseur pour visiter à pied, mais quand même dotée d’un métro et de trams (que j’ai finalement pas utilisés du tout), les quelques personnes à qui j’ai parlé étaient très gentilles, et la température était bonne dans l’ensemble. Mais n’empêche que, aussi bien l’avouer… j’ai hâte de retourner à Berlin en maudit! J’en ai des fourmis dans les jambes.

Aujourd’hui fut encore bien productif. Une bonne promenade et quelques découvertes. Là aussi, je m’en garde pour un jour de pluie (ou de trajet). Donc aujourd’hui, vous aurez droit à l’intérieur du Guggenheim, au pont piétonnier Zubizuri, et à quelques autres extras, bande de chanceux.

Je m’envole pour Berlin vers 10 h 30, arrivée à 13 h 10. Le temps de me rendre à mon appart, je devrais redonner signe de vie autour de 14 h 30.

N’ayez crainte, je vais revenir à Bilbao avant le vrai retour. Pas sûr que j’aurai le temps de faire grand-chose ce jour-là (arrivée à 16 h 30, départ pour Montréal le lendemain matin), mais qui sait.

Well, this short jaunt to Bilbao is already over. Really, really nice city, I gotta say. Just the right size to be visited on foot, still has a subway and tram system (neither of which I used, it turns out), very nice people (the ones I talked to anyway) and decent weather overall. But, I might as well say it… I can’t wait to go back to Berlin. I get antsy just thinking about it.

Today was another productive day. A good walk all around the city, along with a few discoveries. I’m saving those for a rainy day (or a travel day), though. Sooooo, today you’ll be treated with the insides of the Guggenheim, the amazing Zubizuri foot bridge and a few other things. Man are you a lucky bunch or what.

I’m flying to Berlin tomorrow around 10:30, landing at 1:10 PM. By the time I get to my apartment, I should check in online around 2:30 PM.

Don’t worry, I’ll be back in Bilbao before this trip is over. Not sure I’ll have enough time to do much on that day (landing at 4:30 PM, flying back to Montreal the next morning), but we’ll see.

: La première pièce était en forme de spirale, apparemment interminable. Ça ne finissait pas! Je me disais « Ça a besoin de valoir la peine…. ». / The first work was spiral-shaped — and apparently an endless spiral. Damn thing wouldn’t end. I was thinking « Man, the payoff is better be worth it… ».

: Nope. Un gros paquet de rien. Je me suis fait « troller » par une multinationale. Hourra? / Nope. A big bunch of nothing at the end. I got trolled by a multi-billion steel corporation. Yay, I guess?

: D’autres oeuvres. L’exécution était impressionnante, faut dire. / More works. The execution was very impressive, gotta say.

: Mais je dois avouer… même avant de me faire berner par la spirale, j’ai toujours détesté le nom « Arcelor Mittal ». Ça sonne… faux. / I have to admit, even before I got owned by that spiral, I’ve always hated the name « Arcelor Mittal ». It sounds so… off.

: Une autre pièce avec des maquettes des oeuvres. Comme pour nous humilier : « Voici comment vous vous êtes fait avoir! » / Another room with models of the exhibits. It’s almost like they’re taunting us: « Here’s how you got owned! »

: Ugh, je me souviens plus des détails, mais au moins c’est un joli crâne. / Ugh, forgot the details, but hey, here’s a nice-looking skull.

: Ah oui, j’ai oublié de mentionner que les photos des oeuvres à l’intérieur étaient interdites. Hahaha, comme si ça allait m’arrêter. / Oh yeah, forgot to say that pictures of the actual works are forbidden. Haha, like that’s gonna stop me.

: Maintenant revenu à l’extérieur. C’est un espèce de club social sportif de quelque sorte, mais je me disais que le look valait la peine. / Now back outside. This is a social sport club or something, but I thought the building looked nice enough.

: Une très grande surprise. À quelques minutes de là, un centre commercial, avec à l’intérieur la Copa del Rey! L’équivalent de la Coupe Stanley espagnole! Athletic Bilbao joue justement contre Barcelone ce samedi pour l’obtenir. / That was a huge surprise. A few minutes from there, I went to a shopping mall, and here was the Copa del Rey itself! That’s the Spanish Stanley Cup! The final between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona takes place this Saturday.

: Pour revenir à la Copa del Rey (je suis un fan de soccer, que voulez-vous), ça prendrait un miracle pour que Athletic gagne. Barcelone est simplement trop fort, et ils vont chercher à gagner le triplé anyway (saison régulière espagnole + Copa del Rey + Ligue des Champions, le 6 juin… à Berlin!). / To go back on the Copa del Rey, I don’t think Athletic stands a chance. Barcelona is simply too strong (they’ll be going for the triple — the regular season Spanish league, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League vs. Juventus on June 6… in Berlin!)
