Berlin, jour/Day 2 : Retour à quelques incontournables. / Back to a few must-sees.

Hey hey,

La chaleur était écrasante aujourd’hui, donc Stef en a profité pour se reposer les jambes et faire un peu de ménage — ce qui fut très bénéfique. Moi? Naturellement, je suis allé me garrocher dans la chaleur la plus intense, question de revisiter quelques lieux de cette ville que j’adore.

Les habitués de ce blog reconnaîtront certains endroits — cliquez ici : https://europatrick.com/2011/08/09/berlin-quelques-incontournables/ … il faisait tellement chaud, ça ne me tentait pas de me casser la tête ou d’être ultra-créatif. De toute façon, je suis toujours heureux de retourner dans ce secteur-là, même si ça grouille de touristes (j’en ai d’ailleurs aidé deux aujourd’hui — bon karma)!

Demain… on a encore quelques commissions à faire. Profitons un peu des magasins climatisés! (Ils ne le sont pas tous, donc vous pouvez imaginer…)

Hey hey,

The heat was merciless today, so Stef rester her legs/feet and did some cleaning up of the apartment, which was very helpful. Me? Of course, I threw myself into that hellish pit, so I could revisit a few spots in that city I love so much.

The regulars of this blog will recognize a few places — click here: https://europatrick.com/2011/08/09/berlin-quelques-incontournables/ (French only, but worth it anyway)… today was so hot, I didn’t feel like planning anything or being ultra-creative. I always like going back to those spots anyway, even though they’re crawling with tourists (I did help two of them, too — karma++)!

Tomorrow… we still have a few errands to run… Let’s take advantage of those few air-conditioned stores! (Not all of them are, so… yeah.)

: Ces tuyaux roses servent au drainage de la ville (qui avait été construite sur des marécages, il y a environ 800 ans). / Those pipes are for draining (the city was built on a swamp around 800 years ago).

: Le monument à Invalidenpark. Il y a aussi un cimetière et un hôpital pour les victimes de la guerre tout près. / The monument at Invalidenpark. / The monument at Invalidenpark. There’s also a cemetery and a hospital for the war veterans nearby.

: J’en ai fait des places, et je me suis retrouvé dans des situations délicates, mais j’ai honnêtement pas pu monter cette passerelle. Juste une grille de métal, avec l’eau qui rugissait dessous, non merci. / I’ve been in some weird places and situations, but this one I couldn’t go through with. That flimsy grate and the water roaring just below, no thanks.

(We ran into an employee in 2008, and he told us they lucked into a great deal for the rent, so they’ve been there since).

: Ce reflet en forme de croix, c’est « la vengeance de Dieu ». La tour d’Alexanderplatz avait été construite en Allemagne de l’Est, un pays athée. Ils ont été surpris quand le soleil a tapé dessus. / That cross-shaped reflection, that’s « God’s revenge ». The TV Tower was built in East Germany, an atheist country. So when the sun first hit the sphere, the suits in charge probably weren’t impressed…

: On continue sur Ebertstrasse jusqu’au Monument des juifs assassinés en Europe. / We walk down Ebertstrasse to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
