Paris, jour/Day 5: En voiture (autobus)! / All aboard (the bus)!

Hey hey,

Comme mentionné hier, on avait des billets Hop-on, Hop-off. On en a donc profité au maximum. C’était nuageux au départ, mais ça s’est éclairci en grand après-midi, et le soleil tapait fort! Parfait pour relaxer, on s’est même permis de faire deux fois le trajet montrant la tour Eiffel et les Champs Élysées.

J’ai pris presque 250 photos aujourd’hui, en voici une trentaine. Si j’en mets plus, je vais passer la nuit là-dessus à attendre que le téléversement finisse!

Demain matin, on arrive à Berlin. Mes réflexions sur Paris? Splendide à visiter, mais je ne voudrais pas y vivre. Trop cher, trop peuplé, trop bruyant. Pas grave, ce fut quand même très réussi comme voyage, et j’aimerais bien revenir. Il y a quelques attractions que je n’ai pas eu le temps de voir : cimetière du Père Lachaise, Musée d’Orsay, Catacombes… Oh well. Ce sera pour la prochaine fois.

Hey hey,

As I mentioned yesterday, we had Hop-on, Hop-off tickets. We took full advantage of them. Today was cloudy at first, but then it cleared up and the sun was pounding. Perfect opportunity to relax — we even did the circuit passing by the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Élysées twice.

I took almost 250 pictures today. Here are about 30 of them. If I put up anymore, I’ll have to stay up all night waiting for the upload to finish!

So tomorrow morning, we land in Berlin. Now, what do I think of Paris? It’s awesome to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live here. Too expensive, too crowded, too noisy. No big deal, we still had a great trip, and I’d like to come back. There are a few things I didn’t have time to see: Père Lachaise Cemetery, Musée d’Orsay, Catacombs… Oh well. Next time.

: L’Obélisque à la place de la Concorde. C’était un cadeau de l’Égypte (autour de 1860?) pour la première traduction de hiéroglyphes. / The Obelisk at the Place de la Concorde. It was a gift from Egypt (in 1860 or so?), for being the first to decipher and translate the hieroglyphs.

: De retour à l’hôtel. Je me sors la tête de la fenêtre, et c’est ce que je vois à ma gauche! Excellent hôtel malgré tout. / Back at the hotel. I stick my head out the window, and that’s what I see on the left! Great place nonetheless.
